NIST Based Security Framework

EDU Informed Standards

In spring 2023, The Cybersecurity Coalition for Education launched a cybersecurity framework tailored to meet the requirements of K-12 educational institutions. After cross-walking existing cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST, CIS, and ISO, the coalition found that the NIST framework was well-suited as a foundational model for educational security. The coalition members subsequently developed a security framework aligned to the NIST domains (functions), featuring 22 standards informed by educational needs, making it easier for-12 technology leaders to comprehend and apply in their cybersecurity initiatives.

Cybersecurity Rubric for Education

The Cybersecurity Rubric for Education, created by the Cybersecurity Coalition for Education, provides K-12 organizations with a structured approach to evaluate the maturity level of their cybersecurity program. Utilizing a scoring system akin to the widely recognized NIST Cybersecurity Framework, this rubric assists schools in identifying their strengths and weaknesses, thereby enhancing their overall defense against cyber threats. By implementing this rubric, schools can also develop a roadmap for future cybersecurity funding, promoting a continuous improvement cycle.
